All I have to say about Jam Labelizer: this is fun! This website lets you create & print your own mason jars labels, which are not just fun for homemade jam, but f.i. also for salad-jars, cocktail-jars or cake mix-jars. Only the first two designs are free, but the other ones will cost you no more than $5. Though some of you could probably design these in Photoshop for free, this website does save you a lot of time and effort. Sweet right?!

Pictured above: Feedly is my new favorite RSS reader!

I’ve posted about it earlier: on July 1st Google will shut down her long beloved and very popular RSS reader. Incomprehensible, as this is still the most popular method to follow multiple blogs, without having to go to the blogs themselves to check for new posts. The easiest way to continue quick scanning and reading your blogroll must be Feedly. Not only can you adjust the font, colors and way the posts are viewed to your own preferences, you can also tag posts or save them for later. Of all the online readers that I’ve tried, I found Feedly the most user friendly and the most comprehensive. And if you’re going to use it before 1 July, it’s super easy to import your Google Reader subscriptions. In fact, I have to admit: I like this reader way better than I ever did Google Reader.

Before I went on to import my blog-subscriptions into Feedly, I wanted to clean up the list of the 578 blogs I followed daily. These blogs produced over a 1000 new posts a day: too much to follow! So I made an overview of all of these blogs: names, categories, URLs, notes on whether the blog still existed, was recently updated, is easily readable and is showing full posts in my reader (and not just the summary)… Taking everything into account, this list left me with a mere 71 blogs to follow in the future! I have never felt so proud of a long-delayed spring cleaning! There is just one downside: Feedly doesn’t allow me to automatically import my blogroll here on this blog, for all of you to see…

Did you spoil your mom for mothers’ day? I had a little lack of inspiration this year, so I devoted my weekend to baking a cake for my mom. Oh well, a cake… More a giant banana bread (with whole wheat and dades) in the shape of a heart. For the recipe, check out the website of Albert Heijn, just use absolutely no more than half the indicated amount of sugar and syrup. I added a little game of Ruzzle on top, as my mom is kind of addicted to Ruzzle. I made the game of white marzipan, colored pink with a drop of red food coloring, and some choco letters on top.

Warning: you will most probably end up with your entire kitchen covered in melted chocolate… But we did enjoy eating it!

A couple of days ago, one of my friends came by, who hardly ever takes to to cook extensively. So whenever he comes by, I find it extra fun to try something new, with which he can help along.

This time I’d set my mind on a recipe in the Allerhande, the local supermarkets magazine: Vietnamese spring rolls! I can say a very successful and tasteful experiment it was. I didn’t know it was so easy to make these yourself. Spring rolls are really easy to make, and aside from the frying bit, quite slim as well. It’s great to experiment with some ingredients, adding for instance shrimp, chicken, egg, or bean sprouts. The perfect party snack indeed!

The recipe can be found on the website of the Albert Heijn, so that I will not repeat it here. But I will give you the necessary nutritional information of course. Bon appetit!

When I ate at my girlfriends home a week ago, she made some very delicious shrimps. Shel told me then which ingredients she’d used, but hey, three glasses of some bad prosecco later… So last night I wanted to eat shrimps again, and kind of guessed how she’d made them so tasty. Here’s my recipe:

Cut the garlic, ginger, red pepper, red onion and cilantro and mix with the shrimp. Squeeze a little lemon juice over the shrimp and mix in a thick teaspoon of a mix of spices called Chinese five-spices powder. Just fry in a wok for a few minutes, and enjoy this super slim dish!

Don’t forget to add a little salad made of lettuce, cilantro, cherry tomatoes, radishes and a good balsamic vinegar. Nomnomnom!

Just two weeks ago I finally decided not to buy the Dutch Vogue any more, but to get myself a subscription. Instead of 50% off,  I choose the free Black Box as a welcoming gift, stuffed with products worth €300. I’m usually not that fond of surprises, but I figured this was probably one of the good kinds.  And though I’m not going to ruin the surprise, I will tell you, it sure was a good choice! Think lots of luxury products and some additional Vogue gadgets. Boy, the indulgence!! Thinking of getting a subscription as well? Get the Black Box with it! Already looking forward to the next edition of Vogue, June ’13, being sent to my home…
