Nibble, nibble, nibblingTuesday February 12 2013
Last week I spent two afternoons in a row with my girlfriends at the local FISH & FEED pedicure and manicure spa in my hometown Groningen. We enjoyed a simultaneous treatment with Garra Rufa fish, while sipping a glass of prosecco and eating some olives. And I can certainly recommend this kind of pampering! Ichthyotherapy is a biotherapy, derived from the Greek word Ichthys, which literally means fish. The therapy is aimed at treating chronic skin using small beneficial Garra Rufa fish. But treatment with these fish is also really nice if you just like to relax. The fish don’t really eat, because they have no teeth. They suck gently on your skin to remove dead skin cells. That tickles quite a bit, but you get used to it quickly. It absolutely doesn’t hurt, unless you accidentally stuck your feet in a bowl with Chinese chin chin fish, who do bite and by doing so easily spread diseases! During this “sucking” the fishes stimulate the circulation. Cuticles are stripped of sheets and chapping. Meanwhile, the fish secrete dithranol, an enzyme leaving your skin feeling silky smooth after the treatment. Moreover, this is the same enzyme that is also used in creams for the treatment of psoriasis and eczema, because it’s a cell growth inhibitor. The Garra Rufas are naturally found in thermal springs in Turkey, Syria, Iran and Iraq. They live about 4-5 years. In the wild, the fish grow to approx. 15 cm in length, but in an artificial environment no more than 5 cm. A few things you need to know:

Oh oh, you’re gonna love Søstrene GreneSaturday October 20 2012
Yesterday on my way to the gym I suddenly noticed a new store, Søstrene Grene. Of course I had to take a look today! Søstrene Grene, meaning Sisters Grene, was established in Aarhus, Denmark, by the two Grene sisters, Anna and Clara Grene, in 1973. Since then they’ve expanded big time, mainly in Scandinavia. With shops in homeland Denmark, Sweden, Iceland and Norway Søstrene Grene recently opened their first shop outside of Scandinavia, right here in The Netherlands, in my hometown Groningen. The large black store is a very nice shopping experience, with great products which are truly very reasonably priced, no environmental unfriendly packaging, no sales or quantity discounts, and checkouts with funny names like “checkout for nice people”, “checkout for lovely people”, “checkout for friendly people”. Which one would you choose? Curious? Blogger Jennifer Elbert has taken some nice pictures inside the store. Or just go check out their tableware, kitchenware, napkins, storage boxes, candles, gift wrappings, craft supplies, masking tapes, herbs, teas and sweets for yourself & follow Søstrene Grene on Facebook for their latest product news! How I love performing arts festival NoorderzonSaturday August 25 2012
I’ve been neglecting posting on my blog for a few days now, but I had a very relaxing reason: I was totally enjoying THE local performing arts event, called Noorderzon. This 10-day festival is an annual highlight in Groningen, my hometown. I’ve been looking forward for it all summer, and for a good reason: again it was so much fun!!
This was the 22nd edition of the festival. I guess it was my twelfth… So much to see, so little time
Design in GroningenTuesday November 1 2011
This year, House of Design will be organising the ‘Design in Groningen’ event for the fourth time, to be held from Thursday, November 3rd, through Sunday, November 6th. During this event, you’ll find an exhibition on the work of Studio Job in the Groninger Museum (October 15 to March 4, 2012). On Thursday there will be a political debate on design with designers Albert Geertjes and Bart Vos, Kees van Twist (Groninger Museum) and Professor Han Brezet (Technical University Delft). On Fridays there’ll be an architectural tour of the city and on Saterday designer Gerard van den Berg (LABEL) will tell the story behind his designs in the store of VOS Interieur (formerly Maupertuus). On Sunday design studios will open their doors during the Open Design Day. I’ve applied for a 30 minutes interior design advice session at VOS. I’m very curious and of course I’ll report it back to you afterwards! I am a huge fan of Pols Potten. Who/what are your favorite designers / design studios / design shops?
Proeven in GroningenSunday September 4 2011

Recommended exhibitions at the Groninger Museum at this moment: Material World, Firebird, Me Myself and I Chi Peng, Famille Verte. Also fun: for temporary exhibitions, you can use the so-called GM Collector: a keychain that you can hold in front of a little scanner, placed in the different rooms. This will collect digital tinformation about the exhibition, which you can review later via the Internet at home or on your smartphone. Very convenient and a nice addition!
World, Vuurvogel, Me Myself and I Chi Peng, Famille Verte.
